In May 2002, Symbiosis was conferred with the status of Deemed University with three of its institutes coming under its aegis as part of the Deemed University. Today 13 Post Graduate and Under Graduate institutes of the Symbiosis Society are constituent of the University. In October 2008, it was renamed Symbiosis International University.
Symbiosis International University has an active managing committee and an advisory council, comprising eminent academicians, industrialists, bankers and social workers.
Recently, the University Grants Commission, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has selected Symbiosis to promote Indian education overseas.
