The 34 Symbiosis institutes are a reflection of his selfless efforts to provide quality learning- opportunity to students of all ages and at all levels

In recognition of his contribution to modern education, the Govt of India conferred Dr. S.B. Mujumdar with the prestigious honour of 'Padmashree' on Republic Day, 2005.

Worldwide surveys by reputed organizations have lauded India's giant strides in the IT Sector. Today India stands fourth amongst the top 22 nations of the world involved in software development and applications. The progress will have to be sustained in the current environment of globalization, fast paced technological advancements and ensuing intense competition.

Importance of GIS as an advanced technology has been widely acknowledged by the developed and developing countries. In near future, majority of services, infrastructure developments, management aspects, urban development and decision support systems would run entirely based on GIS related foundations.

Visualizing need to create adequate trained human resource in this emerging field, Symbiosis established SIG in 2004. I am happy to note that the Institute has carved a niche for itself in fulfilling aspirations of the students and the GIS industry in this short duration of three years and am confident that it will continue to do so in the days to come.

Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Member of Parliament and former Chairman of ISRO visited the SIG and applauded Symbiosis for starting a full fledged institute of Geoinformatics. He assured the students that a very bright future awaits them after completion of two years course in Geoinformatics.
